Remote Work Arrangement
Employees ask to work fully remote or hybrid from their home address. Their manager approves or sends it back with a comment, and HR sees who works where, by country or state.

Why it exists
When remote work is agreed by email, managers decide it differently and HR can’t say who works where, which matters for payroll tax and policy.
Remote Work Arrangement keeps the request, the approval and the record in Workday. A request with no home address or a start date in the past is refused with the reason, and a hybrid request can’t go without its office weekdays. Only approved arrangements reach HR’s list.
How it works
- The employee
- Asks for a fully remote or hybrid arrangement with a start date, their home address and a short reason, and for hybrid work the weekdays in the office. Sees where each request stands, and corrects and resubmits one sent back to them.
- The manager
- Approves the request, or sends it back with a comment saying what to change.
- HR
- Sees everyone with an approved arrangement, its type and home city, state or region and country, and narrows the list to one country or state.
In the Workday tenant

How it is built
A Workday Extend app. Everything it stores and shows stays in the Workday tenant.
- Pages
- Home, New request, My requests, a request in full, Approve or send back, Correct and resubmit, and HR's approved arrangements
- Stores
- Remote work requests: employee, type, start date, home address, office weekdays, reason and the manager at the time of the request
- Approval
- A Workday business process routes each request to the employee's own manager, who approves it or sends it back; the employee's My Tasks carries a returned request and its comment.
- Who sees what
- Employees see their own requests, managers the ones sent to them, and HR every approved arrangement.
